A Technical Designer is responsible for the visual schematics and descriptions of all of a game’s design elements, which are then used by programmers and artists to implement features. Though there will be a certain amount of iteration involved in the creation of these schematics, it is expected that the technical can present the majority of the design schematic up front, with basic understanding of the intended feature set. Previous experience in a similar position necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a living, visual design document, which factors in design, production, and art input
- Daily production of design schematics which are visual with design rule/ logic annotation
- Good understanding of feature iteration within reasonable schedules
- Advanced understanding of game logic and problem solving
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, used in conjunction with the provided visuals
- Optionally, a solid background in product design could translate into the above.
Key Competencies:
- Basic understanding of office environment software.
- Basic understanding of Maya
- Basic visual drawing skills, preferably leaning towards blueprint-type drawings
- Advanced knowledge of Visio, Adobe Photoshop, and any other necessary software needed for the creation of schematics.
- Basic ability to learn new software packages rapidly.
